Ashland University Center for English Studies (ACCESS)
The Ashland University Center for English Studies (ACCESS), established in 1974, and a member of both AAIEP and UCIEP, provides international students an English language program in preparation for academic studies and for daily American life.
Location
ACCESS is located on the campus of Ashland University, a small, private university in the small town of Ashland, Ohio, a quiet, peaceful, friendly city about one hour's drive from Ohio's largest cities - Cleveland and Columbus.
Classroom Program
ACCESS offers six terms of instruction per year beginning in September, October, January, March, May, and July. In addition, you will participate in a Discovery Class that mixes English study, culture learning, and many interactions with Americans. ACCESS classes are small (fewer than 10 students on average) and instructors are highly experienced and have as main goals to encourage you, monitor your progress, and get to know you personally.
Facilities
Our 120 acre campus is beautifully landscaped with brick walkways connecting more than 35 buildings. Our average class size is 20 students and the student-faculty ratio is 15 to 1.
Accommodations
Ashland University is residential, with the majority of students living on campus and eating in the University Food Court.
Services
Extensive services are provided for international students, from airport pickup to orientation, advising, and activities designed especially for international students.
Activities
ACCESS offers a field trip or special event each week of the term. These may include attending professional sports, visiting museums and amusement parks, attending cultural events, hiking, canoeing, and horseback riding in the summer and skiing and ice-skating in the winter.
Special Programs
ACCESS offers both summer and winter short-term study programs. ACCESS also arranges meetings with a Friendship Family for a dinner or family activity.
