CMMS...Gateway to global opportunities
The Center for Multilingual Multicultural Studies at the University of Central Florida is accredited by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA) and agrees to uphold the CEA Standards for English Language Programs.
The Center for Multilingual Multicultural Studies (CMMS) offers courses that provide students with the skills they need to perform in university settings. CMMS uses a communicative approach to language learning. There is a prescribed set of goals and skills for each course. Teachers use a variety of teaching methods and techniques to accomplish their goals and objectives. We encourage our teachers to teach in a relaxed and natural way so that students feel comfortable in class. In our classes, we have students from all over the world. We prefer classes with approximately 15 to 20 students.
Program
Three 14-week sessions of intensive English are offered at beginning, intermediate, high intermediate, and advanced levels each year. Accent reduction courses and Test of English as a Foreign Language preparation (TOEFL) are part of the program. We also have a multimedia lab and a classroom lab including interactive English programs and Internet access.
The international advisor at the Center assists students in their academic placement into American universities. Admission to the Center does not guarantee admission to any academic program at the University of Central Florida. Students must first meet entry criteria established by the college or university they wish to attend.
