Intensive English Program

The Intensive English Program at Felician College offers students high-quality English language instruction in a supportive and stimulating environment. Since 2000, the program has helped hundreds of students and professionals from various countries achieve their specific goals. General English as a Foreign Language instruction is offered at all levels of proficiency. They are designed to help the students acquire:

  • the ability to use English fluently and accurately in speaking, listening, reading and writing

  • the ability to communicate in culturally appropriate ways in spoken and written English.

  • cultural awareness through an introduction to the distinctive qualities of US culture in comparison with their own and other students' cultures

Students at more advanced levels of English proficiency are introduced to the procedures and expectations of US academic institutions in addition to refining their language skills in such areas as academic listening and note-taking, classroom discussion strategies, formal oral presentation, academic writing projects, and field, library, and electronic media research skills.

Students take a placement test on the first day of class and are placed accordingly to begin on the second day of class. An Institutional TOEFL test is given every month, and students who wish to enter a degree program at Felician College can do so upon scoring 500 or above on the test. In this case, students enter the College program at the next available semester.

After class, once or twice a week, students have a chance to enjoy conversing with native English speakers (Americans), preferably their own age. There is no additional cost for the Conversation Club.
