CultureWorks
CultureWorks is an ESL program located on-campus at two leading Canadian universities. CultureWorks students have the option of choosing short-term ESL courses or ESL and conditional acceptance to either undergraduate or graduate studies in a wide range of academic programming.
There are four levels of ESL study (Intermediate, High-Intermediate, Advanced, and High-Advanced), each taking 12 weeks to complete. Students are asked to complete an assessment test to determine the starting level in the program and are required to obtain 80% to pass to the next level of study.
There are four start dates per year for the ESL program – January, April, July, and October.
Courses include Writing, Grammar, Reading, Conversation, Pronunciation, Listening, and Canadian Studies. The CultureWorks ESL program teaches not only the fundamentals of English but also Western culture and academic traditions through the Canadian Studies program. Students experience Canadian culture during field trips throughout Southwestern Ontario. During these trips, students participate in hands-on activities, listen to guest speakers, interact with Canadians and observe what it means to be Canadian.
Completing the High-Advanced level of the CultureWorks program satisfies the English language requirement for academically eligible students interested in pursuing bachelor, masters, or PhD studies with either of our university partners – The University of Western Ontario (UWO) or The University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT).
Since CultureWorks students are members of the university community from the moment they arrive in Canada, they have access to all of the services and facilities on campus, including the shuttle buses, computer labs, libraries, and gym. CultureWorks students may also apply for accommodation in the university residences. There is also the option to live with a Canadian family through the homestay program.
